Rugs have been my family business for three generations, dating back to my great-grandparents.

Today I'm bringing my 37 years in this business to Los Angeles,CA.

I wish to help my customers find and care for their handmade and antique rugs, as well as learn about the fascinating stories they tell."

FAMILY
BUSINESS

As a child, I spent time in my father’s workshop watching him do his work. As I grew into my teenage years, I began to learn about the business.

However, to me, it seemed like all I was learning was how to move a heavy rug from one place to another!

I didn’t realize it at the time, but through all of that hard work, I was developing expertise in our family trade.

At 16 years old, eager to strike out on my own, I took my entire savings from working for my father and bought my first rug. I traveled 12 hours to my country’s capital city and sold the rug for a profit.

Since that first sale,

I’ve spent the last 37 years of my life developing an extensive network that allows me to source rugs directly from the original owner and import them to the United States and Europe.

Today, after years of importing and restoring antique rugs for dealers and designers around the world, I’ve settled down in Los Angeles,California where I opened new doors to La Brea Rug in Los Angeles.

PRESERVATION

Like a story book

Each rug is woven with symbols that paint a story from the past. My father’s teachings impassioned me about the importance of sharing and preserving the stories woven into each work of art.

The name, Tavous, comes from the Persian word for ‘peacock’. The peacock, symbolizes preservation and immortality, and is a symbol commonly seen in rugs woven in tribal areas.

OUR MISSION

It is our mission to help our customers learn the value of their antique rugs, the stories behind them, how to care for them, and to appreciate the ancient art.
